A tour including Eilat, on the shores of the Red Sea, is a good way to change your focus and discover sites that aren't usually offered in standard tour packages. Take a few days to explore Eilat and its vicinity, or spend the first day of your tour journeying north to Jerusalem via the desert*, where many Biblical and archaeological sites await discovery. Eilat is also the perfect gateway to Petra, Sinai, the Negev, Masada and the Dead Sea.

Below is a model itinerary starting from Eilat to Jerusalem, listing only a few of the sites in Eilat and the Negev within easy driving distance of your hotel.

Eilat: An ideal starting place for a new tour, Eilat is situated on the Red Sea, where the temperature of the water is a constant 24C all year round. With a welcoming year round climate and five-star accommodation, tourist-friendly Eilat is the perfect home base for exploring Israel and the Middle East. Relax or stroll along sunny beaches. Go for a dive and see the wonders of the deep, or visit the Underwater Sea Observatory to see the rich coral beds and tropical fish, and even take a swim with the dolphins. Wildlife parks and bird sanctuaries are just some of the other unique attractions Eilat has to offer. In the vicinity of Eilat are three places the Israelites passed in their 40 year wanderings in the desert. King Solomon later established a port in Eilat, where for over 700 years the kings of Judah exported copper. Visit an Israeli fortress from this same time period, as well as Timna, the world's oldest copper mine

Leaving Eilat, we make our way northward to Jerusalem via the Negev, visiting Israeli forts that once guarded caravans bearing the precious merchandise from the port in Eilat to Jerusalem. Along the way we will discuss how and why the Judean kings inhabited the Negev. We will visit the largest natural crater in the world, Nabatean (Ishmaelite) cites, and the Ein Avdat oasis

We visit Beer Sheva, the largest and best preserved Biblical city, with Abraham's well and a sacrificial Alter dismantled in the reformation of Hezekiah

Making our way north, we stop at Bet Guvrin Maresha, one of the most impressive sites in Israel and the home town of Micah the prophet. Not far away is the Valley of Elah where David killed Goliath

*Arava: The prophet Isaiah uses the analogy of a highway being made smooth and straight in the desert, in order for the Lord to reveal His glory to all flesh. "And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together." In Hebrew, the word desert is arava, which refers to a geographical region found only near the Dead Sea. Come with us and see, and fully understand this scripture.
